A MAN suffered a head injury after being assaulted in Greenock's east end last night.
The 24-year-old was set upon in Belville Street just before 7pm.
Police believe that the man became involved in an altercation and blows were exchanged.
The victim received a laceration to the head which officers believe may have been caused by a bat or similar weapon.
Detective inspector David Wagstaff said: "Enquiries are at an early stage.
"We're appealing for any witnesses who saw the disturbance to come forward with information."
