HUNDREDS of people across Inverclyde endured a sleepless spell as a result of overnight railway works.
Many locals took to social media to complain about the 'deafening noise' coming from Branchton Station into the early hours of Monday morning.
One disgruntled Gourockian, who asked not to be named, says that the racket did not cease until after 5am.
He told the Tele: "I was woken at about 2am by the noise. At first thought it was maybe a helicopter, but there was nothing to be seen in the sky. I have since spoken to people living from Grieve Road to Larkfield, all saying they were kept awake most of the night.
"It must have went on until after 5am, it was constant for hours. It kept both my wife and I awake all night."
The Telegraph contacted Network Rail for an explanation but they failed to respond by the time we went to print.
