ALMOST 500 local companies have received public money to help them through the pandemic.
Retail, hospitality and leisure 'top-up grants' to 224 companies made up the vast bulk of the payouts, at over £14m.
A total of 273 firms also picked up 'Strategic Framework Closure and Hardship' payments worth just under £900k, with the government schemes being administered through the council.
