POLICE and ambulance crews rushed to the scene of an accident which closed the the A8 eastbound in Greenock.
The crash was on Rue End Street, just outside the Fire Station, close to the junction with Dellingburn Street and it involved several vehicles.
It happened just after 3pm.
Ambulance crews and the police are both in attendance while the Coastguard Rescue Team, who are based at the fire station, were also on the scene providing assistance.
One of the vehicles involved was left badly damaged.
The road reopened around 5pm but the accident has caused traffic disruption, with diversions away from the scene, and there are tailbacks building up on Belville Street and other side streets.
