WORK is under way to stop 'further deterioration' of a block of high rise flats in Greenock.
A recent inspection flagged up more problems on the outside of Prospecthill Court in Broomhill.
The block was renovated as part of Broomhill's £22 million regeneration programme a few years ago.
As part of the regeneration programme properties in the area were given a new heating system along with new kitchens and bathrooms and the exterior was also re-rendered.
Owners River Clyde Homes say the latest work is a preventative measure to avoid future health and safety risks.
Fencing has been put up around the building.
One Broomhill resident said: "There have been concerns raised from people about bits coming off the building.
"People in the flats have been told to keep their distance while this work is being carried out."
The housing association says that the need for repairs was identified as part of a routine inspection.
A spokesman said: "We are working with specialist surveyors, consultants and engineers and we will shortly begin initial remedial works to prevent further deterioration.
"This work will only affect the exterior facade of the building and will not affect the interior, nor the main structure of the building.
“As part of our regular best practice, we carry out routine inspections and management of all of our buildings.
"Following the most recent inspection on the high-rise blocks at Broomhill, initial findings show that we should carry out preventative work on the render at Prospecthill Court to mitigate any future health and safety risk."
Last year the Tele highlighted how checks had been carried out on all three high rises blocks on Ann Street - Broomhill, Prospecthill and Whinhill - after concerns about cracks appearing.
The RCH spokesman added: “We have implemented all recommended health and safety measures and we will maintain these measures throughout.
"We are keeping residents informed about this work and the guidance they should follow."
