ENVIRONMENTAL improvement work at a Greenock beauty spot is set to be completed in time for summer.
The first stage of the work around the Town Dam and Cowdenknowes Reservoir is already under way.
As well as cutting back trees, the project also involves upgrading paths, providing extra benches and bins.
Councillor Tommy McVey, who secured £25,000 from the council budget for it, said: "It's a wee gem in this area and this extra money will make a difference.
"I am delighted the the environmental improvement works have started.
"The first stage involved surveying the trees around the dams.
"Based on the professional advice of the arborist, some essential works were required and that has now been completed."
The next stage involves finalising costs and the location of the improvements which have been suggested by the Cowdenknowes Residents' Association.
Cllr McVey said: "That should be done within the next few weeks and the works will then progress over the coming months."
Norman McNeil, who is the treasurer of the residents' association, said: "The Dam is very popular and this work will open it up more to people.
"A lot of older citizens and dog walkers enjoy walking round the dam.
"It's a lovely spot."
Councillor McVey praised the association for throwing themselves into the improvement project.
He said: "I'd like to thank the residents for getting involved in this.
"They have been enthusiastic in their support and have put forward many good ideas.
"This really has been a community-led project and they deserve a lot of credit.
"Hopefully the work will be finished by the summer."
Norman told the Tele this timing would be perfect to link in with the easing of public health restrictions.
