A SENIOR councillor has welcomed the formal submission of plans for a new village on the site of the former Inverkip Power Station.

Scottish Power last week lodged an in-principle application to create 650 homes.

Councillor David Wilson, who chairs the planning board, said: "We have waited many years for this application to come to the council for determination.

"It concurs with the local plan but will require a detailed examination by officers.

"We have seen interest in developing Spango Valley and Inverkip Power Station, both of which indicate a confidence in Inverclyde and its future."
