A GREENOCK ice skating star melted the hearts of the public as she was crowned the winner of a top TV show.
Angela Egan scooped the trophy on ITV's Dancing on Ice alongside celebrity partner, Capital FM presenter Sonny Jay after impressing judges and public voters alike.
The 35-year-old was under the watchful eye of skating legends Torvill and Dean in a showdown watched by almost seven million people.
The duo scooped the trophy after scoring 10s across the board for their Popeye routine and wowing with their recreation of the head judges' Bolero, which won them gold in the 1984 Winter Olympics.
Angela says the entire experience has been life-changing and a 'dream come true'.
Angela, the first professional female skater since the show's 'reboot' in 2017 to come from the UK, told the Tele: "I still can't quite believe this has happened.
"I went in just hoping to make it through each week, I had no expectations to get to the final, let alone win.
"I enjoyed every bit of it and have made such good friends with everyone.
"It was tough but we had the best fun each week and I couldn't have asked for a better partner than Sonny.
"I knew from the moment he set foot onto the ice he had potential and each week he just got better and better."
Angela and Sonny scooped the coveted 'Golden Ticket' in the first week which saved them from the public vote.
Despite having to stick to strict Covid-19 guidelines Angela says she managed to forge friendships with others on the show.
The skater, who usually travels the world with Disney on Ice, said: "We all became so close and I've made really brilliant friends from it.
"Sonny is like a wee brother to me now.
"He worked so hard and was coming straight to training each day from his radio breakfast show.
"Everyone was so nice, from the judges to the celebrities, Holly and Phillip and those working behind the scenes.
"We got to work with Torvill and Dean each week and in the lead-up to the final we got to see them a bit more.
"To get full marks across the board from skating legends who I've admired since I started skating when I was eight is something I couldn't have ever imagined.
"I was on such a high which meant it was a come-down when I had to go back to an empty apartment and not celebrate like the cast usually would!
"But I'm sure we'll all get together when we can."
Angela, whose boyfriend Cody Rowekamp is also a professional skater, is back home in Greenock with her family for the foreseeable and is excited to see what lies ahead after her TV breakthrough.
She added: "Normally I'd be touring with Disney but with the Covid-19 lockdown that hasn't been happening.
"I'm at home catching up on five months of sleep just now and will see what happens next.
"It's been so nice to see my family as we've been apart for so long.
"I'd love to return to the show next season and hopefully by then things will have returned to normal and it'll be the experience that usually happens.
"I had the best time ever doing Dancing on Ice."
