A VICTIM of the Waverley paddle steamer crash has secured a five-figure sum in damages in the first confirmed payout over the 2020 incident.

The injured person, who cannot be named, suffered a broken arm after the world famous vessel collided into a pier at Brodick, Isle of Arran.

She had left Greenock earlier in the day, with a substantial number of local people on board.

More than 20 passengers were injured with some airlifted to hospital for medical treatment.

There were 213 passengers and 26 crew on board at the time of the crash on September 3.

Last month the owners of the vessel accepted liability and agreed to pay an out-of-court settlement.
