A GREENOCK man has been charged with assaulting a police officer to severe injury.

Dennis Morgan, 28, is accused of repeatedly punching and kicking the male PC.

Prosecutors say Morgan struggled violently with him after he and co-accused Patrick Flynn, 30, repeatedly shouted foul-mouthed offensive and threatening remarks.

The alleged offences are said to have been committed at Bow Road on May 27.

Morgan, of Tasker Street, and Flynn, of Bow Road, have pleaded not guilty at the sheriff court through lawyer Aidan Gallagher.

The accused pair were due to stand trial on Wednesday, but cases where there are multiple defendants still cannot proceed due to Covid-19 rules.

The trial has been rescheduled for August 16, with Morgan remanded in custody.
