MORTON manager Gus MacPherson believes that his patience has paid off after a busy transfer deadline day saw him welcome three loan stars from the English Premier League.

Last night Ton snapped up Ireland Under-21 international Oisin McEntee and winger Tom Allan from Newcastle United as well as young Finland midfielder Jaakko Oksanen.

Twenty-year-old defender McEntee makes the switch from Newcastle United to Greenock having joined the Toon in 2017.

He was later joined by 21-year-old team-mate Allan as the second loanee to arrive from Tyneside.

McEntee is currently on international duty with Ireland Under-21s and will meet up with his new Ton team-mates when he returns next week.

Finland Under-21 internationalist Oksenan has signed a temporary transfer until January from promoted Premier League side Brentford.

Having started his career at HJK Helsinki, Oksanen moved to the Bees in 2018 and spent last season on loan to League One side AFC Wimbledon.

MacPherson has backed the trio to make a huge impact in his side this campaign.

The Ton boss told the Tele: “We’ve had to be patient but the players arrived eventually.

“We wanted to try and bring players in who could help the squad and I really believe that these guys can do that.

“We’ve been tracking the players for a long while and we’ve said all along that we’ve had to be patient because we weren’t in a position to dictate the circumstances surrounding the signings.

“It’s frustrating but we’ve been able to get these deals done which is pleasing.

“There’s been a few pieces of business over the last few days that didn’t quite go to plan but we’ve been able to get them in the door which is the most important thing.

“I think that the patience was on the part of that we couldn’t push the moves, we weren’t in control of the move as the buying club.

“Again we’re grateful to Neil McFarlane and Steven Pressley at Brentford because Jaakko has already been out on loan and has a very high pedigree as well as Oisin, who is coming out on his first loan.

“The club are extremely grateful to Shola Ameobi, who is the loans co-ordinator at Newcastle, for trusting us to help him in his next stage of his development.

“It’s now just about getting them settled in and they’ll be good additions to the squad.

“We’ve been very light in numbers in a very young group but it’s important that we’ve got them and we’ve got them done."
