POPULATION stats showing how Inverclyde recorded the sharpest decline in the country last year could have damaging financial repercussions, say council chiefs.
The number of people living here fell by one per cent.
A new report by Municipal Buildings bosses says: "This latest data, which indicates that Inverclyde has experienced the largest population decline in Scotland is disappointing and potentially has implications for our future general revenue grant, which factors population into its calculation."
