A GREENPEACE vessel heading for Glasgow's COP26 sparked drama yesterday after refusing to berth in Greenock.
The Tele understands The Rainbow Warrior, carrying some prominent young activists from communities most impacted by climate change, was ordered to dock by port authorities and Police Scotland at Custom House Quay just before 1.45pm.
As the yacht sailed past Greenock, two Royal Navy vessel were stationed nearby, with onlookers wondering if they may try and intercept.
Despite warnings, the activists carried up the Clyde, causing mass disruption as police ordered the Erskine Bridge to be closed at 2.20pm for 'public safety'.
It is believed that the vessel was advised not to continue its trip to Glasgow amid fears it would have issues passing underneath the bridge.
Greenpeace released a statement at 3.30pm saying that there had been a 'u-turn' by port authorities, and claiming they now had free passage.
The Rainbow Warrior negotiated the bridge safely just before 4pm.
