ALMOST 100 much-needed new homes have been completed across Inverclyde by a social housing provider in a major £14m investment programme.

Sanctuary Housing Association has delivered a total of 96 new properties for rent across four sites in Port Glasgow and Greenock.

A total of 24 flats have been finished in the Port's Dubbs Road, while a further 12 houses and four cottage flats have been constructed on the town's Lilybank Road.

A further 12 houses have been built at Broadstone Avenue and the largest of the four sites has seen 44 new flats constructed at Mount Pleasant/Dempster Street in Greenock, on the site of the old Highlanders' Acadmy primary school.

The £13.8m multi-site development attracted the sum of £7.2m in grant funding from the Scottish Government and has been constructed by Sanctuary’s contractor Cruden Building (West).

All of the 96 new homes for tenants are being managed by Sanctuary Scotland.

Inverclyde Council leader Stephen McCabe, as well as fellow ward representative, Cllr David Wilson, went to visit the Dubbs Road block to see the properties and meet residents.

Cllr McCabe told the Tele: “I was pleased to be able to visit the new Sanctuary flats at Dubbs Court and speak to Mary, one of the residents who was delighted with her new home.

“The flats have been built to a very high standard and designed specifically to meet the needs of people over 55, including the provision of a lift.”

Bosses at Sanctuary say that they are delighted by how their inaugural scheme in the district has gone as residents settle in to their new homes.

Development director Gillian Lavety added: “This was our first project in Inverclyde.

"We are delighted to have delivered these homes, which are an important addition to the area’s social housing stock for local people.”
