ARDGOWAN Hospice is set to host its 'Light up a Life' service for the first time in two years.

It will take place at Westburn Church on Sunday for families and friends who have lost loved ones.

As well as music, prayer and speeches from a number of hospice and community representatives, there will be the opportunity to see a new Christmas tree which was donated by Cardwell Garden Centre.

Ellen Bradley, ward manager at the hospice, says the service is an opportunity for the everyone to pay their respects but also say thank-you for the support Ardgowan has had since it was established 40 years ago.

Ellen said: "We will remember the patients and families who have passed through our doors, cherished colleagues and volunteers, and most of all, we remember the support we have received these last four decades.

"From the early trailblazing fundraising groups who were working so passionately before we even had a building to call home, through to those taking on the Kiltwalk this very year.

"We will never forget the support you, our community, gave to Ardgowan Hospice during this pandemic.

"It is thanks to you, and because of you, that we’re sure that in another 40 years Ardgowan Hospice will still be providing compassionate care in your, and our, community."

In addition to the support offered from the Cardwell Garden Centre team, Inverclyde Shed have created a Light up a Life heart wreath which individuals can tie a ribbon with a personalised message onto and take another bit home as a momento.

Ribbon has been donated by Mairi Coventry from the Wee Crafty Owl shop and Direct Roofing and local tradesman Fraser Chamberlain have also assisted in erecting the tree and lighting it.

Fundraising officer Elaine McNeill says the hospice will also have a digital service in place for those who would prefer to pay tribute at home.

She told the Tele: "We are delighted to see our in-person service return for the first time in two years however we are also offering a digital presentation for those who may not feel comfortable attending.

"It will be broadcast at 6pm on Sunday and will feature an exciting range of guest performers and speakers.

"We are looking forward to both events and seeing as many people as possible get involved."

If you would like to attend the in-person event, email fundraising@ardhosp.co.uk or visit ardgowanhospice.org.uk/LUAL21 where you will also gain access to the online event.
