LIVE-SAVING volunteers were given the recognition they deserve after receiving an award.

Heartstart Argyll and Clyde received a Scottish Health Volunteer Award, of which the Inverclyde branch is a founder member.

Glen Miller, project co-ordinator with Heartstart Inverclyde, who teach emergency life-saving skills to the public, said he was delighted.

He said: "Our area co-ordinator Angela McNeil nominated projects for the award for the sterling work they do.

"I think it is great that all our volunteers are being recognised for going out there and helping to save lives.

"Out group was founded in Inverclyde 25 years ago and in the year before lockdown we trained 1,000 people, the general public, schools and home helps."

Glen said that the group is about to re-start, the only change being that it is no longer administrated by the British Heart Foundation and is now Save A Life Scotland and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

He said: "We are desperate to get re-started after lockdown and we will be starting in the next week or so.

"We work closely with Inverclyde Schools and have done for many years. A few folk have booked training sessions already."
