MSP Katy Clark has voiced concerns for jobs in Inverclyde amid a shakeup of ferry services.
Her warning comes after it emerged global consultants Ernst & Young have been tasked by the Scottish Government to look at the option of 'unbundling' routes into smaller packages.
Labour's Ms Clark fears this could threaten the jobs of people employed by CalMac, which has its HQ in Gourock, and endanger the chance of future vessels being built at Ferguson Marine in Port Glasgow.
She said: “CalMac faces a range of challenges, not least due to years of underinvestment in new fleet.
“The Scottish Government must keep CalMac public and come forward with a serious strategy to build and commission new vessels in Scotland – including here in Inverclyde.”
