AMBITIOUS proposals to increase the number of youngsters learning Gaelic have been outlined by Inverclyde Council.
The local authority’s draft Gaelic language plan for 2022-27 includes an aim to boost the number of children entering Gaelic medium education in primary one by at least 15 per cent each year.
In the current school year, there are just six P1 kids being taught in Gaelic.
There are also plans to establish more opportunities for staff to use the language and increase the number of adults learning it across the region.
The council intends to redesign its logo and branding in Gaelic as well as English by April and has pledged to include the language in any prominent signage as part of any renewal process by 2025.
The plan went through a six-week public consultation between October and December last year, which 33 people responded to.
