GOUROCK is gearing up for its very first farmers market this month.
Ian Macnaughton and minister Reverend Teri Peterson, who are part of a town community engagement group, campaigned to get one and are thrilled the idea has been given the go ahead.
They are delighted that local producers will now be able to showcase their wares in the town centre, with 20 stalls available and other traders able to join in.
The market will be located in the railway station car park.
Ian said: "Myself and Terry conducted a survey asking residents what they would like to see in the area and one of the items was a farmers market.
"It has been agreed that each month four local traders will take part.
"These could be community groups, churches, bakers, candlestick-makers or artists."
Iain said that while the idea came from the community, the town's two independent councillors Lynne Quinn and Ronnie Ahlfeld have been very supportive.
Councillor Quinn said: "I want to thank Teri and Iain for taking this forward.
"It is a great example of community empowerment, seeing that there was a need and making it all happen."
The market will be run by businessman Andrew Smith, who has helped to support the popular markets in Kilmacolm and Bishopton with main organiser Matthew Stevenson, of Linburn Farm in Erskine.
Andrew, who has a business degree, says he is looking forward to running his first market on his own, now that Mr Stevenson is retiring.
He said: "Ian and Teri approached us and this idea is something that has always been talked about."
Reverend Peterson added: "I'm so excited.
"We are exactly the kinds of community that lends itself to a farmers market.
"Gourock has artisans and local traders - I am very pleased that we have this chance to create a greater community spirit to make the town even more a destination town than it already is."
It's hoped that the venue will be an ideal location for people visiting the town, encouraging them to go for lunch or coffee afterwards, browse the boutique shops or have a stroll to enjoy the breathtaking waterfront views.
The first market, pending final licence approval, will run on March 26 between 10am and 2pm.
