MORE than 110,000 cruise ship passengers will arrive in Greenock this summer 2022 as the port bosses look to bounce back from a quiet pandemic period.

There are currently 41 cruise ships booked to visit Greenock's Ocean Terminal between May and October of this year, the Tele can reveal.

More may be scheduled as the year goes on.

As it stands, Greenock is likely welcome more ships than it did during last year's season, which didn't start until July due to pandemic precautions.

But none of the vessels set to visit this time will match the sheer scale of giants like Anthem of The Seas and MSC Virtuosa, which both docked here in 2021 as curtailed companies arranged a series of British-isles-only cruises.

TUI Cruises' Mein Schiff 3 will kick off the cruise call season when it arrives on May 5.

The 2,700-guest vessel will visit Greenock six times this year.

Celebrity Apex is the largest ship that will stop off in 2022, with a gross tonnage of over 130,000, while the 3,679-capacity Emerald Princess will bring the most passengers.

Emerald Princess will also be the most frequent visitor, due no fewer than 14 times between May and October.

Other notable vessels include Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure, a pair of identical sister ships that will dock in May and September respectively.

The duo are jointly the largest vessels operated by Saga Cruises and are able to accommodate 1,000 passengers each.

Seven Seas Navigator is making a return to Greenock.

The vessel, dubbed the 'world's most luxurious ship', featured in the 2004 film After The Sunset, which starred Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek.

Her hull was constructed by the former USSR as a satellite tracking ship before being purchased by operator Radisson Seven Seas Cruises and incorporated into her superstructure.

Princess Cruises' Island Princess, a vessel custom-built for traversing the Panama Canal, will also visit in August while she tours around the United Kingdom and Ireland.
