A HOSPITAL campaigner is urging health bosses to get a move on and tackle problem parking at IRH and local health centres.
Ciano Rebecchi says that the council has already agreed to deploy community wardens to monitor the parking situation and issue fines to drivers who use disabled spaces without having blue badges.
He raised the issue with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde in April and is still waiting for them to give the green light.
Councillor Rebecchi said: "I've been campaigning for a year regarding this now.
"It's something I feel strongly about.
"I've spoken to the head of corporate facilities in Glasgow and apparently my request has to go before a committee, but I don't know when that will be.
"I don't understand the delay.
"It's been agreed by the council that the community wardens will be able to enter hospital grounds and check that blue badges are being displayed properly.
"If someone is parking in a wrong place then they may get a warning or fine.
"People are issued blue badges because of serious health issues and should be able to park in disabled spaces, for others who do not have badges to use these spaces is selfish and unfair.
Mr Rebecchi has also requested that the arrangements should be extended to other facilities in Inverclyde, especially the new Greenock Health Centre car park.
He said: "You would think that this issue would have been addressed, especially with a new facility.
"We shouldn't have to wait years to get these problems addressed, especially with the council willing to work with the heath board to rectify this problem."
Health board bosses say the council's proposal is 'under review'.
A spokesman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “This is an important issue and we must carefully consider proposals to tackle inappropriate parking in blue badge spaces to ensure the most effective and practical solution is applied.
"As such, the council’s proposal remains under review as we work with other health boards to compare similar approaches being taken.
"Once a decision has been made, or there are any further significant updates, we will update stakeholders, including the Greenock Telegraph.”
