A WRITER from Greenock has jointly published a new guide to every Scottish golf course.
Golfland is co-authored by Craig Morrison, and includes a snapshot of his home courses.
Craig, who first played the game at Whinhill and now lives in Somerset with his family, said: “The high moorland courses of Inverclyde should be better known, better appreciated.
"I grew up playing at Greenock Golf Club and still visit whenever I’m home.
"All the courses in the area have great turf and spectacular views, and I always think fondly of them, remembering happy days competing in the Tail o’ The Bank junior league at Greenock, Gourock, Port Glasgow and Whinhill.
"My favourite is James Braid’s brilliant nine-holer at Greenock.
"It’s his only complete design in the area and is a thing of wonder."
Golfland describes the 18-hole course at Greenock as ‘a rollercoaster ride of fabulous golf holes, with none alike' while Whinhill is tagged 'always enjoyable but formidable in parts'.
The book says Gourock is a course where birdies can be made while Port Glasgow is described as 'short by modern standards but with a miserly par' and never a walkover.
*Golfland can be found in most bookshops, with photography by David Cannon, the world’s most celebrated golf photographer.
