GOUROCK'S famous outdoor pool opened yesterday for 2022 - and the celebration was a real splash hit.

Keen swimmers of all ages lined the poolside before jumping in to mark the start of the open-air swimming season.

Young Port piper Fraser Gallacher was on hand to kick off the proceedings at 4pm sharp and the sunshine broke through just in time.

The 13-year-old said: "It is really exciting to have been asked, it was great to see everyone so excited."

Inverclyde Leisure staff have been working hard to get the much-loved 112-year-old pool ready to open without any restrictions for the first time since 2019.

One of the first to dive in was David McCorkindale of IL, who said: "I make a point of coming every year for the big splash.

"It is amazing to have it open again and to see so many people here enjoying it.

"It is the real gem of Inverclyde."
