ST JOHN'S Primary School has made news all over the world after welcoming the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a special royal visit.

From Australia to Brazil and almost everywhere else in between, the happy smiling faces of pupils beamed out of TV bulletins across the globe following Thursday's visit.

As well as starring in Australian breakfast show Sunrise, St John's also headlined the Cambridges' own TV channel, which has followers across the globe.

Video of the visit was also beamed across the globe by Reuters news agency.

Their visit has even been translated into Spanish for South American audiences.

Prince William and Kate came to Inverclyde to join a Roots of Empathy session at the school, run by the Action for Children charity.

The early intervention programme, which involves 'tiny teacher' babies coming in to class regularly, has been running in local schools for ten years and been hailed as a huge success.

The visit helped showcase the work going on in local schools and the prince commented during the visit on the wonderful atmosphere he encountered in St John's.

Inverclyde's director of education Ruth Binks, who was part of the official reception party greeting the royals, said: "We were delighted to have the Duke and Duchess here in one of our schools.

"It was a such a great occasion for Inverclyde.

"I would like to thank all our schools, teachers, pupils and parents alike who work so hard and we are looking forward to getting back to a normal school life."
