A FUN reading event ended on a high note for pupils as they were treated to a visit from a beautiful princess.
Whinhill Primary recently celebrated their love of literacy and books in style.
Pupils were asked to bring in a title they wanted to swap and were also invited to write recommendations to tell others about their personal favourites.
Student teacher Rebecca Cameron dressed as fairytale character Rapunzel and entertained the youngsters with a song melody, as well as reading some stories to the P1 pupils.
Head teacher Liz Ruddy said: "We have a campaign #Whinhill Reads to build up a culture within in the school of valuing the written word.
"Literacy and language is at the heart of teaching at Whinhill Primary, especially as we are a multi-lingual school. Literacy is the bedrock for their future learning and we try to encourage pupils to get excited about reading, showing them how through books they can escape into other worlds."
Ms Ruddy says reading also helps with vocabulary and arms youngsters with language skills that are invaluable in later life.
Zoe Jack, 11, was delighted to snap up a Jacqueline Wilson book.
She said: "This is my favourite author, I have some of her other books. I like reading, it takes you somewhere else."
Lochlainn Dale said: "I like The Famous Five books - they are full of adventure and mystery. They are about kids my own age as well."
Sana Mashwani, 12, said: "I just love reading, it's important for literacy and classwork."
