A YOUNG swimmer with a neurodevelopmental disorder has gone the extra length to raise funds for cancer patients.
Riley Fearnley has been taking on the 5k Swim Challenge this month to raise money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
The nine-year-old, who has ADHD and is currently undergoing tests for autism, has raised around £300 through his efforts.
The Ardgowan Primary pupil, who lives with mum Elizabeth, powered through the challenge - completing over 40 lengths at some sessions.
He told the Tele: "I love to swim and would like to make the swimming team one day.
"I have really enjoyed the challenge and happy to raise so much money.
"I'm very proud, everyone in school has been cheering me on."
Elizabeth, who works as a chef in the Tontine Hotel, says she is 'so proud' of the youngster for supporting those with the disease.
The 31-year-old said: "Riley is an absolute superstar.
"He has ADHD so this is a super-achievement for him.
"You can't get him out of the pool - he is a brilliant swimmer for only nine.
"Who knows, maybe he will make the Olympic team one day."
Elizabeth says people in her family have had cancer, so showing support for a research charity was important to the duo.
She added: "We spotted the challenge and Riley wanted to sign up.
"We have had cancer in our family, so it made sense for him to focus his efforts on supporting a charity who help so many people.
"He is an amazing boy, he's smashed through the challenge and managed to raise a really good amount of money.
"We are very grateful to everyone who has supported him."
