A FURIOUS councillor has threatened a private landlord with leaving fly-tipped flat contents outside their own home address.
Councillor Colin Jackson is fuming at the mess that has been taken from a vacant flat and abandoned at the front of a tenement block on Drumfrochar Road.
He told the Tele he was so incensed that he felt like clearing up the debris himself and then dumping it on the culprit's own doorstep.
Bits of a heating system and carpets are among the items left right at the front of a ground floor flat garden.
Councillor Jackson said: "I have spend the best part of two years clearing up the back of this area, then a private landlord comes along and does this.
"This stuff has been lying here for almost two weeks.
"I contacted the council from an environmental point of view and River Clyde Homes confirmed that the property is owned by a private landlord.
"There is household rubbish, building materials, broken glass and beer bottles.
"There are families who live here and children could cut themselves.
"There is food too and the bluebottles are setting in already.
"It will end up attracting rats, it's a health hazard.
"I would get happily get the whole lot put at the private landlord's front door, and see how they would like it."
Mr Jackson has asked the council to clear the mess but says this should not be necessary.
He said: "Why should they use their scare resources?
"Residents up here deserve better, nobody should have to put up with this, all because of selfish landlords.
"There are people with a new baby who is only six months old living here."
Cancer patient Stan Goodridge, who lives on the ground floor on the other side of the building, also hit out over the blatant act of fly-tipping and says it puts residents at risk.
He said: "It's disgusting.
"My next door neighbour is 74 and disabled, anyone passing here could set a light to that and the whole building could go up."
Neighbour Scott Dillon added: "Three men did it and they said they would get it collected.
"There was a bath and sinks and some guys took that away, but the rest was just left."
"I called River Clyde Homes and told them I expected somebody to pick this up and contacted Colin."
Scott says the stairs in the block have been damaged by the men dragging out the old steel bath.
He said: "It's a slap in the face after all the work that's been going on here to improve the area."
Lorraine Adams, 39, who lives in the block next door, told the Tele: "The men who did it had a van.
"It's shocking.
"Kids were in amongst it all last weekend and they could end up getting hurt."
A spokeswoman for RCH said: “This is not a River Clyde Homes issue and the matter has been referred to Inverclyde Council.”
A council spokesperson said: “Fly-tipping cannot and should not be tolerated and landlords have a responsibility to maintain their property and land.”
