A PANTO packed with famous faces is back at the Beacon again this December - oh yes it is!

This year's audiences will be whisked off on a dazzling magic carpet ride to a faraway fairytale kingdom in the arts centre's own production of Aladdin.

The 2022 festive extravaganza is the first ever panto to be produced by the Beacon itself, marking a momentous moment for the arts venue.

Still Game stars and Beacon favourites Jane McCarry and Mark Cox will be back on the stage when the curtain goes up on December 9.

Jane, who will be starring as Jeannie the Genie in the show, says she's so excited to be part of the first 'in-house' panto production.

She said: "We're thrilled to be returning to this beautiful venue on the banks of the Clyde this Christmas.

"It's so important for the Beacon to have its own panto.

"We love it down here.

"Panto is joyous and we always have such a good time."

Mark, who is set to play the evil Abanazer, said he can't wait to see the Inverclyde audiences again.

He added: "It's great to be back.

"There's a real homegrown feel to the panto this year which is fantastic.

"The kids who come down are always so well behaved and get so into it.

"We just love being in front of audiences in Inverclyde."

The glittering production also stars River City favourite Jimmy Chisholm as Widow Twankey and panto stalwart Lee Samuel as Wishee Washee.

Aladdin will be played by James Dawoud, and Shannon Swan is taking on the role of Princess Jasmine.

The production has been written by Alan McHugh and will be directed by Beth Morton.

Jane hopes families will take some time out to have fun and go along and enjoy the show.

She added: "It's a really difficult time for everyone just now.

"Christmas is about families coming together and celebrating what's most important in life.

"We're looking forward to seeing everyone again."

Last year's show, Cinderella, was forced to close early due to coronavirus restrictions, so Beacon director Pauline Kane believes everyone is eagerly awaiting this year's performance.

She said: "Our annual panto is the highlight of the year at the Beacon.

"We're thrilled to be welcoming back a host of familiar faces to the stage and introducing the audience to some new stars as well.

"Aladdin promises to be a magical show for children and adults of all ages, featuring the usual festive mix of humour, slapstick and songs - all with a local twist.

"We're thrilled to be producing the panto ourselves and showcasing the incredible artistic talent of our team."

Aladdin runs at the Beacon from December 9-31.

There will be a British Sign Language performance (date to be confirmed) and free tickets for disabled companions.
