A YOUNG golfer stunned senior members at his club after getting his first hole-in-one at the age of just 12.

Campbell Munro, a junior player at Greenock Golf Club, achieved the ace while playing a round with his brother and a few friends earlier this month.

Officials were so impressed with Campbell's achievement they arranged for junior captain Nathan Love to present him with a special award commemorating the achievement.

Simon Middleton, a club member who helps coach the juniors, was standing near Campbell and his friends when he struck the shot.

He said: "It's quite unusual for a boy that age to hit a shot like that.

"I've been playing for three decades and I've only had a handful.

"Campbell's been with us for about 18 months, this is probably one of the quickest times I've ever seen between someone starting playing the game and getting their first hole-in-one.

"He's certainly the youngest person I've ever heard of managing it.

"It's great because he's such an enthusiastic and talented golfer, we're really happy for him."

Modest Campbell told the Tele he was over the moon when he realised he'd hit a hole-in-one.

He added: "I didn't realise it had gone in.

"When my friend told me I was so excited.

"I play every Monday and some weekends, golf is one of my favourite sports

"Hopefully one day I can play professionally and be on TV.

"It was great getting the award, but the best part about getting the hole-in-one was definitely rubbing it in my brother's face!"
