A DRUG report for a Gourock man who was charged with possession with intent to supply nearly three years ago wasn't passed to his lawyer until the day he was due to stand trial.

Ross McCabe, 40, is accused of unlawfully having a quantity of the powerful sedative phenazepam, a class C drug, at an address on Belville Street in Greenock in October 2019.

The sheriff court was told that a statement of opinion (STOP) report by police was not passed by the Crown to McCabe's solicitor Gerry Keenan prior to the trial date.

Sheriff David Pender remarked: "This is a long time to produce a STOP report. Perhaps things have just stopped."

Prosecutor Michael Cunningham said: "I can't explain why it has not been disclosed before now. It seems to be an error in our admin department."

McCabe, of Tantallon Avenue in Gourock, is now due to stand trial on the matter next January.
