AN Inverkip author went back to school to inspire the young wordsmiths of tomorrow.

The team at Inverkip Primary invited Becky Deveney back into her old stamping ground to celebrate the publication of her first book, The Adventures of Lizzy the Lollybug.

Becky, 21, penned the cute title to help youngsters learn about road safety.

Since its launch earlier this year, she has received fantastic feedback about the tale from youngsters of all ages.

When the school found out about Becky's success, they snapped up some copies - and it's now a big hit with young readers.

Becky was invited into the P2/1 class and read out some of the story to the pupils.

The young author, who is studying psychology at the University of the West of Scotland, said: "It was so lovely to come back and the kids were fantastic.

"I enjoyed reading some of the book out to them.

"It's great for them to make that connection between the book and the author.

"I'd like to thank the school and pupils for inviting me back."

Inverkip Primary head teacher Una Nicolson says Becky's work has been a big hit with young readers.

She added: "The kids love the story.

"It's a perfect fit for us, as it's set within the context of road safety and that's very important for us outside our school.

"We've purchased books for the school and children have the book in their class libraries.

"We're delighted to support Becky as she's such a talented young writer.

"It's really inspiring for the pupils to see what our former pupils go on to achieve."
