A CHARITY champion who has raised £15,000 for good causes is holding an event next month to make a little boy's dream come true.

Billy Monkhouse, 64, is bringing a Tom Jones tribute act from Spain to Port Glasgow, to help raise money for a bionic 'hero arm' for six-year-old Conor Gillen.

Billy heard about Conor through Helen Coyle of the Tuesday Belles group, who are currently running an appeal to help the local lad.

They are fundraising to help find the £8,000 needed to purchase a prosthetic limb for him.

He said: "I was asked to do a DJ set for Helen's ladies day at the Hibs Hall and I saw them present four cheques for £500 each to local charities.

"Helen told me their next fundraising event was to raise funds to buy a hero arm for a wee boy.

"It struck a chord with me as I had been unable to do any charity work since Covid."

The driving instructor tragically lost his brave son Lance Corporal Stephen Monkhouse, the 1st Battalion Scots Guards in Afghanistan in 2010.

Soon afterwards Billy threw himself into fundraising.

Over the years he's supported Help for Heroes, the Armed Forces Covenant Trust Fund, Poppy Scotland and the Scots Guards Colonel's Fund.

Billy has now lined up 'Benidorm Tom', who is doing a UK tour, to make a special appearance at the Hibs Hall on December 30 for the benefit night.

He said: "He is absolutely tremendous, I've heard him over 20 times in Benidorm."

Billy will be DJing at the disco and there will be raffles on the night.

Tickets cost £15 and they are available from behind the bar or by sending a private message on Facebook to Billy or his wife Jackie.
