A GREENOCK man facing 'numerous' sexual assault allegations has been charged with breaching his bail — and allowed his liberty again.

Colin Colley, 46, is accused of failing to comply with a stipulation to report to Greenock police office six days a week.

Prosecutor Maria Murdoch opposed a motion by solicitor Edward Sweeney for Colley to be granted his freedom again.

She told the sheriff court: "The accused is currently on bail with regard to numerous sexual assault and other sexual matters.

"It is considered that he is a substantial risk of reoffending and has eight cases pending regarding allegations he has breached the same bail conditions.

"Police have said that because of alcoholism these will continue be breached."

But Sheriff Edward Gilroy allowed bail and remarked: "Perhaps a sign-on condition, given his alcohol problems, is not the best idea."

The case is due to call again on January 24.
