UNION bosses say they have secured recognition for workers employed at the James Walker Devol plant in Faulds Park in Gourock.
The recognition deal brokered with management by Unite covers around 100 engineers who are responsible for manufacturing components for the construction, oil, gas and railway sectors around the globe.
Workers across the entire site voted to have Unite represent the workforce for the purposes of negotiations over jobs, pay and conditions, with 73.5 per cent supporting recognition in a 74 per cent turnout.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This workforce overwhelmingly supported the demand for recognition and Unite now looks forward to directly improving their jobs, terms and conditions in negotiation with the plant’s management.”
Colleague Pat McIlvogue added: “Our members at James Walker Devol are highly skilled workers making products for markets around the globe.
"By securing recognition for this group of workers Unite will be able to better ensure that our members are paid fairly and are properly treated by management.”
