A GREENOCK man has won cash for binning trash.
James Sutherland, 56, regularly meets up with other litter pickers - nicknamed the 'Lyle Hillbillies' - on Saturdays to clean up Lyle Hill.
The kind local has been rewarded for his community spirit after scooping £250 by snapping a photo of rubbish he binned via the newly launched 'LitterLotto' app.
The app, which is run in partnership with eco-charity 'Keep Scotland Beautiful', offers weekly prize to litter-pickers who sign up.
James, who got into litter picking over lockdown, hopes that the initiative will give people an incentive to be more mindful of the environment.
He said: "The lockdown woke a lot of people up to the fact that there’s a lot of litter in their area, which they’re taking more pride in.
"I’ve mentioned the app to a few people and the word is getting around. I see a lot of people covertly putting litter in the bin and taking a quick snap now.
"You should pick up litter anyway, so the financial incentive just wakes people up."
