A GREENOCK man locked up on charges of breaching seven sheriff court bail orders and vandalising a car at his ex-partner's home claims she set him up.

Robert Wilson, 44, is accused of smashing the window of the vehicle with a hammer at an address in Gourock on January 3.

He says the woman has made a series of 'malicious' allegations against him.

Defence lawyer Derek Buchanan told the court: "Mr Wilson says that allegations have been made maliciously by the complainer, as a result of him not being remanded previously.

"He is delighted that there is Ring doorbell footage which he says will exonerate him."

Wilson is also accused of breaching nighttime curfews imposed on him and with flouting a series of court directives to stay away from a named street in Gourock.

Mr Buchanan said that five allegations that his client was in the street where the woman lives will be met with special defences of alibi.

Other allegations that Wilson twice failed to answer his door to police during curfew hours have a 'potential medical explanation', the court was told.

Mr Buchanan said: "Mr Wilson's position is that he is on medication which result in him being drowsy."

Sheriff Sheena Fraser told Wilson, of Burns Road: "You are currently on supervised bail.

"I am not convinced that you are a suitable candidate for bail on this occasion."

The case is due to call again this month ahead of a trial date which has been scheduled for January 30.
