A NURSERY has gone straight to the top of the class after earning a glowing report card.

Wellington Children's Centre received its first inspection since moving into its new home in George Road, Gourock.

The nursery received 'very good' grades for care, play and learning and staff, plus a 'good' rating for leadership.

The report praised the team and found that families were pleased with the nursery and the way it is run.

Natalie Jack, head of centre, said: "I am over the moon with the report, really happy.

"I am very proud of all the children and staff.

"We moved into the building in November 2020 but this is our first inspection so it was very nerve-wracking."

She believes the centre thrives due to 'its nurturing and caring environment.'

Natalie said: "We have experienced and hands-on staff and lovely partnerships with parents and outside agencies, including local childminders."

The inspectors found children were making good progress with their learning and were 'happy and confident'.

They were also impressed with input from the local community, including joint activities with people from a local care home and staff from Morton's community arm.

The nursery building itself also gained top marks while watchdogs said that the staff team were 'kind and caring' and knew the children well.

The report said: "They showed a genuine interest when children approached them.

"As a result, children experienced a warm, nurturing environment where they felt valued and secure."

One parent said: "Each member of staff at Wellington knew our children inside and out and they were always willing to have a wee chat and share news with you.

"The level of care they show is second to none."

Only one area for improvement was highlighted - the need to ensure all staff, including volunteers, are subject to robust recruitment procedures.
