POLICE were called to a Greenock hotel which is currently housing around 70 asylum seekers amid welfare concerns.

Officers were sent to the Holiday Inn Express on Thursday after concerns were expressed about an individual.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.45 am on Thursday 16 February, police received a concern for person call at the Holiday Inn Express, Cartsburn, Greenock.

"Officers attended but all was in order and no further action was required."

The hotel was requisitioned last year by the UK Government to help deal with a surge in asylum cases, but concerns were recently expressed about the amount of time being taken to consider the cases of the men.
