TALENTED musicians helped an Inverclyde secondary school enjoy its most successful Inverclyde Music Festival to date.

Port Glasgow High School had its most fruitful year ever at the festival as its pupils secured an impressive haul of certificates and trophies.

Top performers together bagged 18 first places, 14 seconds, six trophies and one shield.

Young people took to the stage in groups, as individual vocalists and instrumentalists, and were also part of the junior orchestra with pupils from Newark Primary and Craigmarloch.

Principal music teacher Julie Ballantyne says the festival was a 'very positive' experience for everyone.

She added: "The young people enjoyed amazing success.

"I was blown away by how well everyone performed and represented the school.

"We had quite a few pupils competing for the first time and everyone was so supportive of each other.

"Preparing for their festival performances really helped their confidence.

"It was a fantastic experience for everyone, regardless of whether or not they won an award."
