IT IS read-y, steady go at a much-loved local bookshop as it gets set to reopen today after mammoth repair works.
The Wemyss Bay Station Bookshop has reopens to the public today for the first time since October 2021 after repairs to the damaged ceiling were complete.
The popular shop, run by Friends of Wemyss Bay Station volunteers, has been shut since December in order for Network Rail to carry out works.
Now fully back open six days a week, bookshop manager Simon Dell is delighted to welcome his customers back.
The Skelmorlie man said: "This is the longest that the bookshop has ever been closed since we opened in 2009.
"We are very lucky to have had the work completed by Network Rail and the new ceiling looks lovely.
"We have been having issues with the roof for years, so it is great to finally have it sorted and to be able to reopen.
"It will be great to see everyone back."
The bookshop opens Mondays to Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, with staff on hand to offer guidance on reads for all ages.
Helping Simon to set up the shop ahead of opening was former manager Sheena Inglis from Skelmorlie and fellow volunteer Mo Adams from Wemyss Bay.
Simon believes that keeping books affordable is why the venture has remained a consistent success.
He added: "Our books haven't changed price since we opened, that is what keeps people coming back.
"We've got something for everyone and have people of all ages pop in to visit.
"There is also the return of the trolleys outside the shop, where everything is usually 50p.
"It feels great to get back in action."
