A GREENOCK charity shop which has been at the heart of the community for over a decade marked its birthday with a day of celebration.

The team at the British Heart Foundation (BHF) furniture and electrical store in West Blackhall Street gathered together to mark 13 successful years in the town.

It has raised tens of thousands of pounds for the lifeline charity over the years.

Shoppers and supporters joined the current store team for the landmark event, which also welcomed previous volunteers who have supported the store over the years.

Dedicated staff cut the cake and shoppers were treated to some special birthday offers.

Store manager Sarah Malone said: "We’ve enjoyed a fantastic 13 years of business here in Greenock.

"I'd like to thank all of our loyal customers, our staff and our volunteers who really make this shop special, and help the BHF continue to fund lifesaving research into heart and circulatory diseases."

The store offers a wide range of goods including beds, wardrobes and sofas as well as electrical items like televisions and white goods.

Donations of stock are always welcome.

A team of 34 volunteers, ranging in age from 16 to over 70, help in the shop every week.

Manager Sarah said it would not be able to function without its volunteers.

She added: "Volunteers are the lifeblood of our shops.

"Some of them work full or part-time jobs and still find the time to come and help us.

"Their gift of time helps us to help others and we are so grateful to every one of them."

BHF Scotland area manager James Park said a huge 'thank-you' to everyone who has helped make the last 13 years so successful for the store.

He added: "It’s been a lucky 13 for us in Greenock and we are so proud to be part of the local community.

"We really do appreciate all your support."
