A GREENOCK climber who scaled Mount Kilmanjaro for a charity close to his heart features in a film of the trip which premieres in Canada this weekend.

Stuart MacKenzie, manager at Bathroom Elegance, scaled Africa's highest mountain at over 19,000ft and helped to raise £24,000 for Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

Stuart, 28, took part in the trek with his friend Simon Allan in memory of Simon's late daughter Mia.

Stuart said: "It turns out that one of the other girls climbing for CHAS, Zara Janjua, is in fact a producer and documented the whole thing.

"It is a documentary through grief and how specifically Simon and his wife, Steph, have used the trek to help overcome their grief.

"It is called Closer to Heaven and the film brings to the forefront just how important the work at CHAS is and the first hand experiences of those who have unfortunately had to use their services."

Greenock Telegraph:

Since releasing the trailer, the film has been picked up by the Global Film Festival and will be premiering in Ontario.

Stuart said: "As a group we have decided, at the last minute, to join Zara in her premiere and hopefully use the trip to bring more awareness of the great things not only CHAS can do, but how taking on such a monumental task can help so many people for whatever reason they decide to take on a challenge, be it to help bring closure or to help those who so desperately need the fundraising.

Greenock Telegraph:

"Our company Bathroom Elegance Ltd / Wet Wall Works understands the importance of the success of this documentary to not only highlight the importance of CHAS, but also to inspire others to undertake similar challenges and encourage people to get fundraising for any charity or cause."
