A TALENTED Inverclyde brass instrumentalist has made it to the final of a prestigious national music competition.

Tenor horn player Andrea Crumlish won the Inverclyde heat of the Scottish Young Musicians Festival.

Andrea played Peter Kneale's Variations on a Welsh Theme at the event, which saw young people from schools all over Scotland take to the stage.

Her success means she will be playing at the final in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow on May 21.

Earlier this year, former Inverclyde Academy pupil Andrea became only the second tenor horn player in history to be offered a place on the Batchelor of music degree at the Conservatoire.

Andrea's teacher Mark Good said the young musician's performance at the festival was 'so impressive' and that he was very proud.
