LOCAL dignitaries marked International Workers' Memorial Day with a service in Greenock today.
Councillors, trade union members and clergy representatives joined Friday's service in the town's Clyde Square.
Reverend Jonathan Fleming of Wellpark Mid Kirk led the event as a lone piper played a lament and a minute's silence was held to remember people killed at work, as well as those who have suffered injury, illness or disease through their employment.
Wreaths were also laid at the ‘Men of the Clyde’ sculpture by attendees including Inverclyde Provost Drew McKenzie.
Similar events took place across the country as part of the annual memorial day, while in Greenock, the Beacon Arts Centre will also be lit up purple as a mark of respect.
