A POPULAR BBC series starring Greenock’s Martin Compston is set to return to TV screens this year.
The Line of Duty actor teamed up with presenter and best friend Phil MacHugh last year as he embarked on an adventure in Martin Compston’s Scottish Fling.
The show followed the pair as they learned about Scotland’s people and places on a road trip through various regions.
It’s sequel, Northern Fling, will see the pair reunite as they travel from Shetland to Norway to lift the lid on what can be learned from Scotland’s Scandinavian neighbours.

Martin said: “Me and my buddy, Phil MacHugh, are off again, this time to Norway which means ‘Way of the North’…“North for some conjures up images of cold bleakness and a tough life, but is it really that?
“I don’t think so. We are heading to Norway to get some real northern exposure to the life and the people, at work and having fun.”
The show is a joint effort from BBC Scotland and BBC Unscripted, produced by Scottish-based company Tern.
Steve Allen, commissioning editor at BBC Scotland, added: “Martin and Phil’s irrepressible sense of fun, based on their solid friendship, delighted viewers as they travelled cross Scotland and it is going to be so interesting – and I would expect a lot of fun – to get their take on Norway.”
As well as Northern Fling, the BBC has commissioned an additional series of Scotland’s Sacred Islands with Ben Fogle, also produced by Tern.
David Marshall, head of entertainment at Tern, said: “Making series where big name talent do counterintuitive things is what Tern is known for, and we are pleased to have secured another series with Martin and Ben, both household names who are able to disarm contributors and make audiences feel they are part of their adventures.”
No exact date has been given yet, but both shows are expected to be broadcast on BBC Scotland, BBC Two, and iPlayer later this year.
