A SPECIAL concert is being hosted at Westburn Church in Greenock next month.

The Lanarkshire Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra Da Capo Alba will perform on Saturday June 10 at 7pm.

It is believed to be the first ever performance by such an orchestra in Inverclyde.

The theme will be Music from the Movies.

The association's administrator and co-founder Ian Pommerenke-Steel said: “Most people in Scotland have never heard a mandolin and guitar orchestra, but when they do they are pleasantly surprised by the sound of mandolins, mandolas, guitars and double bass, all of which complement each other in producing a unique orchestral sound.

"Da Capo Alba play a wide variety of music including classical, modern and even pop.

"We are absolutely delighted to be performing for the first time in Inverclyde and I can promise that you that with 30 musicians on stage this will be a unique experience.”

The orchestra has links with Greenock through two local musicians, Calum and Duncan Harbison, who play, conduct and arrange some of the music.

Tickets are priced at £10 and £8 for concessions and this includes refreshments at the interval.
