AN eyewitness has told how fire crews had to divert water from a Gourock holiday park’s swimming pool to extinguish a ferocious blaze which tore through a caravan at the site.
Fire engines rushed to Cloch Caravan Park on Sunday just after 7pm after the fierce blaze broke out.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing large plumes of smoke coming from the caravan park, with the blaze visible for miles around.

Amid the dramatic scenes the caravan was all but destroyed.
Dunoon resident Graeme MacPherson, 43, was shocked when he spotted the fire, which was large enough to be seen from his home on the other side of the River Clyde.
He said: “It was the flames I noticed first and then I saw that it was the caravan site.
“The fire crews were fighting it for at least an hour.
“From my vantage point all of the smoke was going right towards McInroy’s Point.
“I was just hoping that no-one was injured.
“It was quite alarming to see.
“I was relieved that it didn’t spread further, especially with the fire [on the moors between Greenock and Gourock] the other night.
“That one spread quite quickly because of the wind."
Despite the best efforts of fire crews, the blaze completely consumed the caravan, which was left a burnt out husk.
Another eyewitness told the Telegraph: “I could see the plumes of smoke from far away, it was quite alarming.
“When you got closer you could see that the fire was really fierce.
“It seemed to just be one caravan that had went up, but there was an awful lot of smoke and fire.
“They had to use water from the swimming pool to help put it out.
“I don’t think it was close enough to anything else to spread thankfully. It would have been terrible if it had.”
The Tele contacted Cloch Caravan Park for comment on the incident.
