A POPULAR Greenock businessman is back behind the counter at a popular chippy in the town for the first time in three years.
Gianni Demelas, 59, has returned to his most successful shop in Newton Street, near the west station.
The grandfather had sold on the business to a friend in Glasgow a few years ago.
Gianni, who comes from Sardinia, opened up a few weeks ago now and is building up his business again.
Gianni said: "It's picking up, it will just take time. I've seen a few old customers coming back.
"We'll see how it goes during the summer."
Gianni said the sale of his hugely successful business venture didn't work out with his friend and felt it was the right time to come back.
He said: "I've had shops in Gourock, Greenock and Inverkip but this has been the most successful one. I've had it for 10 years.
"I feel as if I've come back home.
"I know everyone in Greenock and I missed everyone and they put their trust in me where it comes to food."
Gianni has three children, Gioia, Gianluca and Sofia and six grandchildren who are are all pitching in to make sure the business is a success second time round.
