BUDDING snappers from a Greenock school took part in a photography competition in memory of a very special lady.

Pupils from Lady Alice Primary were invited to take a picture inspired by Love, Laughter and Nature.

The contest was held to remember much-loved classroom assistant and talented photographer Sheenagh Cameron, who sadly passed away suddenly last July.

The school thought it was only right that her lifelong friend and former Greenock Telegraph colleague George Munro chose the winner from the amazing six-strong shortlist.

George, speaking at a school assembly, said: "It was incredibly hard to select a winner as every picture told its own story and was special in its own way.

"I was also impressed by the wide range of subjects."

Greenock Telegraph:

The six finalists chose subjects ranging from a snowy scene in Lapland to an atmospheric Eiffel Tower and a portrait of family pets.

But the winner Franky O'Neill's entry was closer to home, depicting colourful spring flowers framed by the school in the background.

Greenock Telegraph:

He was presented with the Sheenagh Cameron Memorial Trophy and a top prize of a digital camera.

He said: "I am so excited.

"I am getting a hot tub in two weeks, and it's a waterproof camera, so I'm going to take photos in the hot tub."

George said that while every finalist could have won he was drawn to the colours in Franky's photo.

He said: "I chose this because of the colours. Sheenagh loved bright colours."

Ashley McGlone who teaches the school's P7 class, said: "I think it is a fitting tribute to Sheenagh, she loved everything creative.

"She loved taking photos of the kids in the playground and sports day, at all events in the school.

"She was such a wonderful friend and colleague.

"She is a huge loss to our school family, she did so much for us and for the children

"Sheenagh had an amazing laugh and loved nature, she loved being outside."

The other finalists in the contest were Taylor Carson, Andrew Baxter, Adam Porteous, Niamh McAllister and Molly Herbison.
