Greenock residents revealed their top picks for the restaurants they miss the most in a recent poll conducted by the Greenock Telegraph.

While responses varied, a few clear favourites emerged among those polled.

Caravellas, which served up “amazing” breakfasts and skewered steak with garlic butter, was a popular choice, as was Aldo’s, a long-standing Italian restaurant in the town centre that boasted delicious steaks and minestrone soup.

Rico's also received multiple mentions for their delicious garlic bread and penne arrabbiata.

West Station Avenue Cafe and Kopper Kettle were also missed, with the latter in particular drawing affection for their cheeseburgers.

While not a restaurant, the Bakers Oven above Woolies was remembered fondly for its chips and gravy.

A few respondents noted that their favourite spots were small cafes rather than traditional restaurants, with Brown’s Cafe and Leo’s getting shout-outs.

Some respondents were more specific, reminiscing about certain dishes or aspects of their favourite eateries.

Morgans’ voodoo chicken was remembered by one respondent, while another noted that Rossini’s Cafe had a great vibe in addition to their good food.

Other respondents reminisced about less traditional eating establishments.

The Burger Van at Hunter Place was enshrined in one person’s memory, while another longed for the days when the Port and Harbour area of town was nicer to visit.

Not every respondent could remember the exact name of the restaurant or cafe they missed, but many could vividly recall particular moments or dishes.

For Peter Finnegan, the top floor cafe in Arnotts was a weekly treat, and for John Meechan, a nondescript cafe at the corner of Cathcart Street and Station Road held happy memories.

While many of the restaurants and eateries on the list are no longer operational, some businesses still operate in the area.

City Bakeries and the Kopper Kettle Cafe were mentioned, as were the more recent and upscale Tribeca and Arlechino.
